У Лондонському університеті, на програмі International Business Law, яка вважається однією з найкращих магістерських програм для юристів в світі, Дмитро навчався завдяки міжнародній стипендіальній програмі Chevening, яку виграв у 2022-му році.
Про навчання Дмитро поділився у своєму Linkedin:
“Thanks to Queen Mary, I had the real possibility to explore the peculiarities of English law and the legal system, which, at first glance, seemed like total chaos for a lawyer from a civil law jurisdiction (and some areas still remain challenging for me).
Paradoxically, this experience helped me better understand Ukrainian law by shifting my attention to the whole another world of legal reasoning and doctrines. Despite the stereotype that English law is vastly different from continental law, I discovered that shared values and a willingness to challenge one’s “legal worldview” can bridge understanding.
What became clear is that some concepts I applied in my practice were done so by inertia, without questioning why it works this way and how it should work. I believe I’ve gained a valuable skill for building a better Ukrainian legal system which is based on understanding how the legal reasoning should look like, even when sometimes it may not align with a client’s interests or your personal views.
It’s noteworthy that in the UK, I don’t see judges hiding behind institutional curtains. In Ukraine, we often refer solely to the name of the court. Perhaps, de-anonymization is what we need: lawyers should be more flexible and honest with their audience, whether it’s a judge, attorney, or the media. But, most importantly, with themselves”.
Chevening – одна з найконкурентніших програм, яка дозволяє студентам із понад 160 країн світу здобути магістерський ступінь у британських університетах. Фінансує програму Міністерство закордонних справ і справ Співдружності націй Великої Британії (FCDO). Щороку цю стипендію отримують лише 2-3% усіх аплікантів.
