Anna Movchan has over 10 years of professional experience and specialises in complex labour disputes, advising on labour law reform in Ukraine and the implementation of EU legislation.
Anna has experience in cooperation with Ukrainian and international governmental authorities and non-governmental organisations, advising Ukrainian and foreign employers on all key aspects of labour law, from employment of foreigners to dismissals of top management. She helps businesses manage risks and adapt to legislative changes.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Anna has been based in Kyiv and advises clients on labour relations under martial law, as well as on employee reservations, military registration, and legal relations with mobilised employees.
In 2024, Anna Movchan successfully defended the interests of a company that provides natural gas transportation to consumers in Ukraine and the European Union in two disputes with the company’s former CEO. The former CEO filed two lawsuits against the company seeking to recover annual bonuses for 2020 and 2021 in the amount of 125% of the CEO’s annual salary, and the average salary for the 6 months. In both disputes, the courts of first instance and appeal confirmed the legitimacy of the company’s position and ruled in favour of the client.
In addition, in 2024, Anna provided legal assistance to one of the world’s largest financial institutions, the World Bank Group, in developing new labour legislation in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to aligning the draft code with EU directives and other obligations related to Ukraine’s potential accession to the European Union, as well as ensuring a proper balance of employee and employer interests, given the war and the expected post-war situation and labour market in Ukraine.
Also, in 2025, Anna won in the court of appeal in a complex labour dispute, representing one of the largest oil producers in Ukraine in a dispute with a former top manager of the company on reinstatement and recovery of average earnings for the period of forced absenteeism.
Anna is constantly improving her professional level and qualifications, is a member of the working groups of the Legal Policy and Human Capital Management Committees of the American Chamber of Commerce in Ukraine. In addition, she is a member of the Human Resources Committee of the European Business Association and the Ukrainian Bar Association.
In addition, Anna Movchan provides pro bono advice to individuals, a charitable organisation that builds housing for internally displaced persons, and holds open lectures for entrepreneurs on the Diia.Business platform.
